A Colorful Engagement: Reasons to Choose a Colorful Ring & Our Top Picks
Dare to be Uneek means dare to think outside the box. In a world of classic diamond engagement rings, which we adore, there’s always charm in going the nontraditional route: colorful diamonds and gemstones. With a little color in your ring, your sparkle will stand out from the rest and carry a unique significance.
“For every 10,000 colorless diamonds, there is one colored diamond in the world,” says Breanne Demers, vice president of Uneek retail partner Gunderson’s (a family-owned jeweler with three stores in Sioux City, IA; Sioux Falls, SD; and Omaha, NE) and part of the Natural Color Diamond Association‘s Board of Directors. “This provides an opportunity for the bride or groom to create a truly rare and unique engagement ring using colored diamonds in the design. If you think about it, how many pink or yellow colored diamond engagements have you ever seen?”
Benjamin Javaheri, Uneek Jewelry owner and designer, is a particular fan of yellow diamonds.
“Aside from it being rare, a yellow diamond evokes a warm, sunshiny, happy feeling, so when a woman is wearing it, she will always be reminded of the warmth and happiness that surround her,” he says.
Aside from colored diamond, emeralds, rubies, sapphires, and opals are trending among millennials, who are more often opting for the rainbow hues, according to Bride Magazine. Some women are even incorporating their birthstones into the design, making it that much more of a personal statement.
That’s another reason to choose the colorful route. The gems and hues of these engagement rings have the potential and opportunity to reflect your unique love story in their historical symbolism and brilliance. For example, emeralds are said to embody unity, compassion and loyalty, while rubies are considered the stone of passion and energy. Whatever the hue, your hand will hold a one-of-a-kind ring that reflects your journey and will look extra fabulous on you all the while.
“The blue sapphire is almost always linked to royalty,” said Angelo Dela Cruz, Uneek director of marketing, advertising and special events. “It has, after all, been the darling gemstone of queens and princesses for ages, so I guess that’s kind of why a lot of women are hesitant to consider it as a center stone for their engagement rings. They think it’s too prim, too ritzy, or both. Working with sapphire rings every day, though, I have come to realize how versatile they are. Yes, there is no shortage of glamour there, but certain sapphire ring styles—especially the ones with modern silhouettes, like this oval-centered three-stone from our Royal Blue Collection—can also be down-to-earth. They look as good with jeans as they do with gala gowns! Oh, and this ring was also featured in BRIDES magazine’s December 2017/January 2016 issue.”
