Tell us about your engagement! (Don’t spare any details!)
Before we were engaged, Mike was deployed. Before he deployed, he moved to Colorado Springs. I was still in school so I was home in North Carolina finishing my degree. When he moved to Colorado Springs, a few weeks before deploying, I came out to visit. We lived very close to a park with tons of hiking trails, so we went and checked it out and did a few! When he returned from deployment and I moved here in September, we frequented the park for hikes. We got a beautiful day in October after a fairly big snow storm and decided to go hiking! I wanted to visit a different trail from the ones we had done before and picked Seven Bridges Trail. The hike was icy and cold, but a lot of fun. When we made it to the seventh bridge, it seemed tradition had it to carve initials in the posts of the wooden bridge. Mike, who is always prepared, pulled out a pocket knife so I could leave our mark too! While I was distracted doing that, he apparently went to the backpack claiming to get water. Next thing I knew, he’s being silly picking a ring box up out of the snow on one knee behind me asking me to marry him. I was shocked, and of course started crying. The proposal was a perfect mix of things we enjoy – being active outside, humor, and spontaneity. I loved it!
